Die totale Sonnenfinsternis vom 20. März 2015 findet am Tag des Frühlingsbeginns
auf der Nordhalbkugel statt. Der Pfad des Kernschattens ist mit 430 Kilometern
ausgesprochen breit. Die totale Verfinsterung beginnt östlich von Neufundland und
der Schattenpfad umrahmt dann Grönland und Island auf seinem Weg durch das
Europäische Nordmeer. Die Färöer-Inseln und Spitzbergen liegen in der totalen
Zone. Die Finsternis endet nahe dem Nordpol, genau an dem Tag, an dem dort
die Sonne erstmals nach einem halben Jahr wieder über dem Horizont erscheint.

In ihrer partiellen Phase kann die Finsternis von ganz Europa gesehen werden.
